A monthly women’s group makes quilts and comforters to support the peace, relief and development work of Mennonite Central Committee. This takes place the first Wednesday of each month, September – June, 9am-3pm. Bring your own lunch and come when you can.
On the church grounds is a large garden which provides income and fresh produce for the Food Bank at Wilmot Family Resource Centre. If you would like to help with the garden or donate some plants, contact the church office.
Maker’s Market in November provides alternative gift options created by close to 30 local artisans. Proceeds from a soup lunch support Wilmot Family Resource Centre. More information available in late October.
Volunteering with the Breakfast Club which provides tasty, nutritious food served with TLC (Tender Loving Care) for kids who come to school with an empty stomach.
Intergenerational learning and service trips have included
- Helping to rebuild homes with Mennonite Disaster Service
- Participating in the TOOLS (Toronto Opportunities for Learning and Service) program – learning about homelessness in Toronto while walking the streets and serving in various agencies.
Some new projects that are in the works are:
- Preparing to help a third Syrian refugee family resettle in Canada.
- Exploring how to support attainable housing opportunities in the area.
Monthly special giving projects support human needs locally and globally: including famine and war relief, food bank, mom’s camp, indigenous water projects, peace and sustainable development.
We support people in our community through ongoing donations to:
Wilmot Family Resource Centre which provides “social support services to low-income and food-insecure families and individuals.”
Interfaith Counseling Centre New Hamburg which “strengthens the fabric of our community by empowering individuals, couples, and families to realize their emotional wellness and triumph over life’s challenges.”
Shalom Counseling Waterloo which helps people toward good mental health.
House of Friendship Kitchener which serves “more than 42,000 individuals each year who need food, housing, community resources or addiction treatment.”
We support Mennonite Church Eastern Canada in leadership development, congregational resourcing, supporting newcomer congregations and international witness.
